items handmade by our own EWS Parent Handwork Group. Faire-goers can
try their hand at carving soapstone, creating a vine and flower headpiece,
or a host of other activities. Make plans to stay for lunch, which
will feature authentic North Carolina barbecue, vegetarian offerings, and
our famous strawberries and cream for dessert. Parking and admission to

of July Celebration

Free entertainment and fireworks display in the University of North
Carolina's Kenan Memorial Stadium. Performers on stage from 7pm to
9:25pm. Fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:30pm. Recommended
parking is in the Craig, Dogwood and Cardinal Parking Decks off of Manning
Drive. Disability parking available in the Bell Tower Lot.
Gates 5 and 6 on Kenan Statium's South side will be open with seating
available on the South side only. Lower and upper levels will be
open. Alcohol prohibited - no coolers, outside containers or food
items allowed. ***** Note for families with babies and young
children: Since
the Chapel Hill fireworks are fired in the stadium, surrounded entirely by
stadium seats, which produce echoes and amplify the firework booms, they
are extremely loud. We found them to be much louder than any
fireworks display we have ever attended (since we previously had attended
open air fireworks displays, not in a stadium). We rarely
editorialize, but we thought we would mention that the stadium fireworks
display may be too loud especially for babies and young children's
sensitive ears.

More about St. Martin's Day: CarolinaKinder is keeping a German tradition alive. In Germany children
(and parents) spend much time making paper lanterns before St. Martin's day.
On the 11th of November they follow "St. Martin" on a horse around the streets after dark with their beautiful lanterns aglow and sing
special songs. After the parade children receive Weckmaenner, a traditional
pastry, and the adults enjoy a cup of mulled wine.
For more information or to find out how to make lanterns, check out these websites: http://www.funsocialstudies.learninghaven.com/articles/lantern.htm

Moonie & Broon Charity Show: Foolish
Mortals, Jugglers and Variety Arts presented by the Historical
Enrichment Society, shows at Peace College, Kenan Hall, Raleigh, NC
November 18, 2006, 3PM Matinee Family Show; 7 PM Evening Show (after Party
and Reception at Tir Na Nog) From the press release: "MooNiE and BrooN: Foolish
Mortals! is a classic vaudeville and sideshow comedy event with a modern
improvisational twist. Each performing alone in the first half we
see the classic clown, magic and comedy routines they have perfected
as solo artists in their own unique style over many years. In the
second half, these two worlds collide in a show that is always thrilling
and never the same twice. Watch these two foolish mortals defy
common sense and gravity to bring you a show that is as unique as it is
hilarious. . . . This is the ONLY East Coast appearance for this
Show and we are honored they are bringing it to Raleigh for this very
special fundraiser for the Historical Enrichment Society which presents
the NC Renaissance Faire each spring."
Reviews: "Terrific Act"
- Chicago Tribune; "A Great Night Out. A brand of buddy comedy
I thought was a lost art." - The Age, Melbourne, Australia.
"Their show is by turns inspired and thrilling." New City
